Cheating to Get Back at Your Spouse – Can It Be Therapeutic?

Is cheating to get back at your spouse therapeutic? Is it something that even crosses the minds of some people?

It sure is.  I’ve heard the question, “should I cheat on my spouse to get even? Will it help me to get over my pain?” a lot recently in the forums.  The advice given when this question is asked is just as surprising.

Your spouse cheated on you and your world as you know it has been destroyed? But what should you do to get your life back on track?  Is there anything that you can do to make yourself feel better quicker?

Many people will say that getting even with your spouse is the best therapy. If you are even considering this option you need to think twice.

Reasons Why Cheating to Get Back at Your Spouse is a Bad Choice:

Health Risk – the first and most important reason to avoid this irrational way of thinking is the risk of catching and infectious disease in your moment of despair. When you are in this frame of mind, you will be more likely to make a mistake such as having unprotected sex to get even. That mistake could lead to you getting infected by the HIV virus in which your life will not only be destroyed, but cut short. This reason alone should make it clear that cheating to get even is a terrible choice.

Morals Ignored – If you are someone with any morals, your will deeply regret your indiscretion when the dust settles. You may get your temporary satisfaction, but in time you actions may damage your psyche more than you know. It is also an action that may sabotage your chances of ever having a successful relationship in the future.

There are plenty of other reasons why revenge cheating is not the answer to your sorrows.  In fact, it is often said that forgiveness is the quickest way to recovery.  It is probably also the most difficult action to take when cheated on.
